In the Alarm Phase your heart rate increases, your adrenal gland releases cortisol (a stress hormone), and you receive a boost of adrenaline, which increases energy. The fight ?or flight ✈️response is there to keep you safe in emergencies. For example, you’d be choosing the ‘fight’ response if you heard gunshots on a city street and confronted the shooter. By comparison, you’d be choosing the ‘flight’ response if you fled the scene, which according to your brain, would most likely be in your best interest.
